Handmade from a 1900s vintage sterling silver Death Valley sterling souvenir spoon, this charming ring features Scotty's Castle. Nestled in the dramatic landscape of Death Valley, Scotty’s Castle is a stunning 1920s Spanish Villa built through an unlikely friendship between a wealthy Chicago tycoon and a charismatic gold prospector. Though famously named after the eccentric "Death Valley Scotty," who claimed it was built on his secret gold mine, the historic estate was actually funded by millionaire Albert Johnson as a comfortable desert getaway. This unique ring would make a lovely gift for yourself or someone you adore!
This ring is made from a vintage sterling silver spoon, 925, nickel-free. This ring will be adjusted to the size you request but it can easily be tightened or loosened at home should you want a different fit. As these are antique items, there may be minor wear and tear from its past life. Some rings may have engravings or markings. We do not offer any customization or marking removal at this time.
Spoon rings originated in 17th-century England. In those days, flatware was highly prized as it was made from solid silver and highly stylized and decorated in an heirloom manner. Popular lore explains that servants, unable to afford to buy 'proper' engagement rings would steal a flatware piece from their master's home. They would shape it into a ring and give it to their beloved for a marriage proposal. Thus, the earliest spoon rings served as symbols of love and commitment, in defiance of strict social and economic barriers.
