A wide ring featuring a Paye & Baker design dating back to the early 1900s entitled "Daphne." This striking Art Nouveau piece depicts a nymph goddess with cascading hair down the ring. Highly detailed and rare, perfect for the goddess in your life!

In Greek mythology, Daphne is a naiad—a type of female nymph associated with fountains, wells, springs, streams, brooks, and other bodies of freshwater. She is particularly famous for her association with the myth of Apollo, the god of light, music, and poetry. According to the legend, Apollo was struck by one of Cupid's arrows, causing him to fall deeply in love with Daphne. However, Daphne, determined to remain independent and untouched by Apollo's advances, fled from him. When she was on the verge of being caught, she called out to her father, the river god Peneus, who transformed her into a laurel tree to escape Apollo's embrace. Apollo, heartbroken by the loss of his love, adopted the laurel as his sacred tree and wore a laurel wreath on his head in her memory.

This ring is made from a vintage sterling silver spoon, 92.5, nickel-free. This ring will be adjusted to the size you request but it can easily be tightened or loosened at home should you want a different fit. As these are antique items, there may be minor wear and tear from its past life. Some rings may have engravings or markings. We do not offer any customization of spoon rings at this time.

Spoon rings originated in 17th-century England. In those days, flatware was highly prized as it was made from solid silver and high stylized and decorated in an heirloom manner. Popular lore explains that servants, unable to afford to buy 'proper' engagement rings would steal a flatware piece from their master's home. They would shape it into a ring and give it to their beloved for a marriage proposal. Thus, the earliest spoon rings served as symbols of love and commitment, in defiance of strict social and economic barriers.
