A fairy maiden adorns these earrings with sterling earwires. Many artists working in the Art Nouveau style portrayed women mystically and symbolically. Originating from a fascination with psychology and symbolism in this artistic period had origins in poetry and literature. Many artists rejected the constraints of realism and turned instead to inner worlds, examining female forms as ethereal and wondrous. The notion of Woman as the embodiment of purity (or its opposite) was a recurring theme of art and literature in this style.
